When Paul became the custodian of Jersey's historic Island Music he naturally reached out to us - half way across the world. Sharing a passion for music he asked us to help with the shop branding, giving us full 'blind faith'.

THE CHALLENGE

Revamping a historic music shop for the digital age, while keeping it a welcoming stage for everyone - from 'Baa, Baa, Black Sheep' to Black Sabbath - that was our challenge. We aimed to strike a chord with all, blending tradition with innovation, and creating a symphony that celebrates Jersey's rich musical heritage.

THE STRATEGY

The core belief that guided our brand strategy was that in the world of music, every rockstar was once a beginner. Our strategy was to build an inviting, inclusive space that celebrates the journey of learning and the joy of music with a little bit of defiance. We aimed to transform the shop from a mere store into a vibrant community hub, where every strum, every note, and every beat is a testament to the universal language of music. Because here, everyone deserves to be heard.

THE solution

In crafting the brand identity, we danced with the dualities of tradition and defiance. We paid homage to history, drawing inspiration from vintage typography and old-school lockups. We infused the brand with a rebellious spirit to reflect Paul's personal passion for music. We introduced a grungy, texture-filled aesthetic and grainy black and white photography. The result was a brand identity that harmonised the nostalgic charm of a bygone era with the raw energy of youth.

The idea and the vision has been so cool – the main space now feels like a proper music shop. The rest of the place just looks like a bad office!
